Neue Seite

ABC: Attendants, Baths and Crucifixions
What previously happened
Torica and her group came to Temissrah to find a rare bird for her initiation to Fida'Is. However, people took her for Kastor and welcomed as one leader of the secret organisation Attendants of a great Afadjann, formerly know to the group as “the Black Coats.” They learnt a lot about the Attendants and revealed that Kastor's first officer embezzled money from the timber trafficking.

Godsday, Illusionweek
[[Datei:Hammam.jpg|miniatur|Haftah serves Torica a.k.a. Kastor in the bath.]]
After a good night's rest Kastor went to a bath nearby. After the long journey from Tavu eb Teba and the eventful day before she felt the urge to freshen up. As soon as she was finished, word reached her that Ishtar, her husband, had arrived in Temissrah and would be soon with her. Now Torica got nervous. What would her “husband” say? How would he react? Would he see through her false identity? Would he call her the impersonator she really was? She knew the couple had not seen each other often in recent years. But was that enough? Just to protect her, the group decided that Kastor would meet Ishtar alone in their room upstairs. His men should wait in the tavern's main hall, while Bencali would wait next door and Haftah would always be in her room pretending to be the obedient maid.

Then Ishtar arrived and met Kastor – and everything was fine. After a brief greeting and some kisses Ishtar wanted to have a bath, too. Haftah suggested that Kastor would go along “to be with her husband”. So the couple spent some pleasure time in the bathing house, with only Ishtar's first officer Shovu and Haftah present.

In the meantime Bencali tried to find out more about the Jann's businesses. He also got 30 different pairs of similar birds, like the one we were looking for, and he got so many hibiscus plants, he could have build his own garden. Eventually he found out that a senior Attendant on the name Ishjabel was in Garguna, were she had bought a house, in which she lived with some 40 slaves. In the city she controlled additional 140 slaves.

Freezeday, Truthweek
miniatur|The city's palace is a huge compound with a luxurious garden, fountains and small water canals. Rumour has it that the palace has its own sweet water spring somewhere below the main building.
Today Kastor and Ishtar had the appointment with the Jann of the city. Kastor was accompanied by Bencali and Haftah. Ishtar had Shovu and his entourage with him. At the palace first only Kastor and Ishtar were invited in. Meanwhile Bencali talked to Shovu's men in the garden and found out that allegedly Istam was plotting against Kastor, because he saw her as a rival. That was confusing. Were Istam and Ishtar not the same person? At least that was what the group had found out in Tavu eb Teba. Apparently that information was false. Both of them seemed to live in Tave eb Teba, but only one of them was the head of the black market. Surprisingly nobody of the Attendants had pointed out that mistake when the group had used both names interchangeably before.

After some minutes that seemed like ages for Haftah all slaves were asked to enter the hall as well. The Jann of Temissrah was a small, funny looking guy. His long, colourful robes and his energetic gestures with his arms gave the impression that this little man was dancing all the time. First Haftah thought that he was about her age, but after a while she realised that he must be at least his father's age. He came to her and gave her a hug. Was that how Janns were supposed to act, fraternising with a kaddam? She did not know whether this was the proper behaviour for a demigod but she liked it.

The Jann talked to Kastor most of the time. He did not know Ishtar before and although he talked to him just enough not to appear impolite, he did not seem to have interest in him or any man for that matter. After some small talk he revealed that he had heard about the upcoming execution of Ashala. Enthusiastically he offered to organise the public event on the main market square and to attend it himself. In the end he handed Kastor a big chest full of gold and jewels before he bid farewell.

Waterday, Truthweek
[Datei:Ashala's Crucifixion.jpg|miniatur|Thousands of people came to see Ashala's crucifixion. Too many even for the main market square of Temissrah. The city's Jann had indeed made it a big public event.]]
The Jann of Temissrah had organised a spectacular event, indeed. Thousand of people were assembled on the main market square. On a stage the Jann, Kastor, Ishtar and other dignities held speeches about loyalty, the common cause and Ashala's treachery. Then they brought him in. It was obvious that he had been tortured but that did not matter any more. Under the cheers and shouts from the crowd Ashala was crucified by the hands of the Attendants district commanders. Ishtar had brought rusty nails from his boat and Bencali helped them to get the nails into the bones without tearing them apart. In the end Ashala was so weak from his previous mutilations that he died quickly, what made the Jann very happy.

Afterwards Kastor declared Fasir to be Ashala's successor and publicly cast Darleester's Spell of Compulsion on him.

Clayday, Truthweek
On the next day Kastor and Ishtar moved into Ashala's former mansion. Kastor also took over his household slaves. The chief slave was a surprisingly young woman who always wrote some notes, hence she was called “Clipboard”. In the evening Kastor and Ishtar had a conversation about future plans. Bencali and Haftah were also present and Haftah explained her ideas of taking over Garguna through control of timber and stone as desperately needed building materials. The others agreed but only willing to use market tools, whereas Haftah had suggested to use extortion and coercion as well. However, Ishtar grew suspicious about Haftah's lack of submissiveness. He had the feeling that Haftah behaved much more dominant and confident than before and more than was good for a slave.

Suddenly a messenger arrived. She delivered a letter to both Kastor and Ishtar in which somebody claimed the “right to call the twelve” in Tavu eb Teba. It had the seal of a high ranking Attendant of a division not yet known. When the messenger was gone, Haftah ran after her, following her to the docks were she took a chartered ship and sailed off. Back in the mansion the group discussed what to do. Soon also Baltar arrived, because he had gotten the same letter. He was angry about being summoned, especially during Storm Season, when travelling was difficult. His anger was not so much about the journey itself but about being told what to do without knowing why. When Kastor and Ishtar could not tell him why they all summoned he went off again.

Shortly after that Haftah heard a scream and a fight. Briefly forgetting her role as an obedient slave she told Ishtar and Kastor to wait in the room and lock the door from the inside. Then she ran off to find the cause of the disturbance. An intruder had climbed into the garden, sneaked past Shovu and his men and was on his way to Kastor's room when he was stopped by Ms. Clipboard. In the fight Ms. Clipboard had to kill the intruder to keep him from getting through to Kastor. In the process she got injured herself but would survive given proper treatment. The intruder wore the black coat of the Attendants and the base amulet of Istam's division. Haftah ran off to inform Baltar, then she went back to Kastor, Ishtar and Bencali. While the others planned to confront Istam with his treachery when they would be in Tabu eb Teba, Haftah expressed her concerns. She told the group that the assassin was poorly equipped and that Istam was probably too smart to send an assassin bearing his own amulet. She said this could as well be a sham.

Windsday, Truthweek
miniatur|Although late Dark Season is usually a dangerous time for naval travelling, this was a good day for sailing, with strong, steady winds – and most of all no typhoons.
This was the day of departure, and it was a good day with strong winds. Four ships left Temissrah, the slowest left port first, the fastest sailed off last. On Ship 1 were Baltar and Clipboard, while Baltar's household took the longer land route. Ship 2 was bought yesterday by Kastor and delivered timber to Garguna. Ship 3 was Ishtar's pretending to go to Garguna as well but instead going to Tavu eb Teba first. Ship 4 was Bencali's, on board were also Kastor, Haftah and Malian. They had also loaded timber, the hibiscus plants and the 30 pairs of birds. Haftah explained that it was much saver to sail in formation, especially after the assassination attempt last night. She tried to insist, but she was overruled by Ishtar and Bencali.

Godsday, Truthweek
Of course the inevitable happened, one ship was lost. It was Baltar's. If it weren't so sad, Haftah would have told the others “I told you so.”

Nonetheless Kastor/Torica had to do her Initiation to Fida'Is. She handed the birds over to priestess Myrajelma, who set them free in the temple. After some hours of waiting she also met the high priest Angamanix. Torica had forgotten that she could not understand the high priest, because he spoke in a strange fiery language and did not make any efforts to make himself understandable to others. This time was no exception and he simply began talking to Torica who had to call for a slave to interpret. Hence she missed the high priest's first sentences. The slave came just in time to translate that Angamanix asked her if she really thought she had spent enough time in the death wing, what Torica affirmed. She probably had still the dreadful self-torturing scene in her mind and did not want to see that again. Then Angamanix said something that came as a shock to Torica: To prove her willingness to join the cult and Fida'Is acceptance she would have to lead the high holy day ceremonies during the two weeks of Sacred Time!
