Neue Seite

miniatur|Fida'Is is the sunbird, that is born each dawn, flies across the sky and dies at dusk.
Mythos and History
Fida'Is descended into hell to bring suffering to the world when the gods broke the laws of Freedom. He was returned by the Necklace of Seventeen, through the Necklace of Light heroquest, to travel constantly within the eternal Necklace to which Ompalam has set him.

Nature of the cult
Fida'Is is the sunbird, that is born each dawn, flies across the sky and dies at dusk. The cult is only known in Afadjann and Kareeshtu in Fonrit, where he is worshipped as one among other sungods. Just as Fida'Is is born and dies every day, his followers try to renew themselves over and over again. Those that join his cult become set aside from normal life, their new duty is to uphold the basis of civilisation itself.

Depiction
Fida'Is is always depicted as a fiery bird, never as a human being. Depending on the circumstances he is sometimes shown hatching, flying across the sky or dying in a burst of flames. Whenever possible statues of Fida'Is are made of gold.

Rune affinities
Fida'Is is associated with the fire rune.

Fire rune affinity
Fida'Is is the god of the sun. He is sometimes called the sky phoenix. Among other things his initiates use the fire rune to heat things, to ignite flammable and non-flammable objects, to be immune against fire or heat, to redirect fire, to be resurrected and to die instantly, to detect gold, to identify gold, to command birds, to clear the sky.

Opposed runes
Although Fida'Is is a fire god he is not opposed to the darkness rune, as darkness is part of his life and death circle. Instead Fida'Is is opposed to the water rune, which is his daily nemesis.

Particular likes and dislikes
The cult of Fida'Is has no particular likes and dislikes in Fonrit. The cult teaches self-awareness through meditation and is usually not concerned with political intrigues. As a apolitical organization the cult indirectly supports the system of Ompalam, Garangoros and Darlester. Before the closing of the oceans the cult had strong links to eastern mysticism.

Cult organization
Officially each temple of Fida'Is acts independently. However, the priesthood in Faladje holds the highest prestige. The temples are always built in the form of the fire rune. They are very elaborately crafted, and usually large parts are covered in and painted with gold. Three entrances lead into three separated parts of the temple respectively. Each third of the temple is dedicated to one of Fida'Is' three states of being. The centre is dedicated to Fida'Is in the completeness of the three aspects. This area is usually restricted to the most senior members of the cult and the high holy day ceremonies during sacred time. Ceiling and roof of the temples are usually gold covered to reflect the sun above and the fires below. All fires are extinguished at nightfall. The whole temple is an aviary, holding many exotic and otherwise rare birds. While most birds live in the section of the subcult of Flight, they can fly freely through the whole temple. The subcult of Death acts as temple guards.
Priests

As a small cult Fida'Is has relatively few priests. They are called “sunbirds” and maintain the temples of the cult.
[[Datei:Fida'Is_Devotee.jpg|miniatur|A priestess of Fida'Is in her ceremonial garb celebrating the high holy day ceremonies during sacred time.]

Centres of power and holy places
Fida'Is is a lesser cult in Fonrit, and only one among several sun cults. However it is wide spread, and can be found in every major city. In Kareeshtu the cult is more common than in Afadjann, where the centre of power lies in the city of Faladje. In Faladje Fida'Is is the official patron of the city.

In the gods time Fida'Is touched the ground several times during his flight. Those spots mark holy places of the cult. At these sites there are objects to be found, that were touched by Fida'Is. Each object re-lives his cycle of live and death. The great temple in Faladje is erected around a tree, which had been touched by Fida'Is in such a way. This tree burns and dies every dusk only to blossom again at dawn. It is believed, that more places like this exist in Fonrit. Sometimes followers of the cult go on pilgrimages to seek out those places.

Holy days
Every fire day is celebrated. Usually each of the three subcults performs its own ceremonies on this day respectively at dawn, noon or dusk. On fire day, movement week, fire season the cult celebrates Fida'Is movement across the sky. Worshippers use this week for pilgrimages. The high holidays of Fida'Is are the 14 days of sacred time. In this time between the years all major life and death rituals are performed. Unlike the fire day and fire season ceremonies all worshippers of Fida'Is come together at sacred time to perform the ceremonies together. The ceremonies last all daytime, with each of the three subcults leading a third of the ceremonies: The Birth beginning from dawn, the Flight at noon and the Death until dusk.

Sacrifices
All sacrifices to Fida'Is must be consumed by fire. Fida'Is accepts any kind of sacrifice, but he particularly likes birds. Birds and slaves who die in his flames are always reborn, even if this is not in the sacrifice's own ability. However, the circumstances of the rebirth are unpredictable.

Initiates
All initiates of Fida'Is must possess the fire run at a rating of at least 1W. kaddam, the lowest rating slaves, are usually prohibited from entering the cult. Even a yad is usually not allowed to enter, because the cult teaches how to choose one’s own time of death, which would be a destruction of the slaveholder’s property. The cult does not discriminate between man and woman. Initiates must not fear death as this is an integral part of life. They may not use painkillers in any form but must endure pain until death. Initiates are never buried but cremated. Initiates can never be blinded by light.

Subcults
Fida'Is has three subcults associated with his three states of being respectively: Birth, Flight and Death. After one year of membership the initiate has to choose one of the subcults.

Birth of Fida'Is
Fida'Is is the sunbird that is born every day. Followers of this subcult hold their ceremonies at dawn. His followers seek the spiritual purification by eliminating bad habits. They often meditate to reach a new self-awareness. They often use myths and stories to determine the flaws in human nature. The subcult teaches its followers to make new beginnings, to find weaknesses in a person and to convince people of new ways.

Flight of Fida'Is
Fida'Is is a giant burning bird flying across the sky. This subcult teaches its followers to talk to birds, ride birds and even fly. Initiates must always protect birds and never harm them except for self-defence. Sacrifices to Fida'Is are not considered harmful. Followers of this subcult often tend ill or endangered birds, some maintain aviaries. Followers of this subcult hold their ceremonies at noon.

Death of Fida'Is
Followers of this subcult hold their ceremonies at dusk. Fida'Is is the giant sunbird that dies every day. Death is not considered bad or evil. It is an integral part of every life. This subcult teaches its followers to predict the time of a person's death and summon fiery birds to burn and distract enemies.

Devotees
A Fida'Is initiate may dedicate himself completely to Fida'Is and become a devotee of his god. A devotee of Fida'Is is subject to the usual restrictions. Unlike initiates, devotees seek the completeness of all three aspects of Fida'Is. Therefore they may join a second subcult and after time even a third.

Feats
Devotees of Fida'Is may perform magic feats (Sartar: Kingdom of Heroes p. 82). Some feats are universal to the cult, others are restricted to a specific subcult.

Flight
Every day Fida'Is ascends from the eastern ocean, flies across the sky and lands on the western ocean. Devotees using this feat can also fly on any pre-determined course. A change in direction is not possible. The devotee will completely heroform (Sartar: Kingdom of Heroes pp. 82), and appear as a burning man-sized bird.

Spontaneous self-combustion=
When Fida'Is touches the western ocean at dusk he bursts in flames and dies. Devotees using this feat can choose their own time of death by spontaneously self-combusting. The soul of the devotee will be reborn. However, the circumstances of the rebirth are not predictable and should be left to the narrator's discretion.

Find new ways
Every day at dawn Fida'Is creates something that has not been there before: himself. He flies across the sky on a path that was not used before him.

Rituals
The cult of Fida'is knows the secrets to some ancient and powerful rituals. One such ritual is given below.
miniatur|Although the main focus of followers of Fida'Is is to reach a new level of self-awareness, the cult can use some fierce battle magic as well. This picture shows a devotee of Fida'Is summoning a great firebird and casting it against enemies of the temple.

Slave Fire
Devotees of Fida'Is can perform a ritual on their slaves. This ritual lasts a full day from dawn to dusk, and on the next day at any given time will cause the slave to burst in flames. Priests of Fida'Is sometimes use this ritual in defence of their temple and city. Usually slaves are commanded to run deep into the enemy's line before they are ignited by the devotee from afar. After the slave has been consumed by the fire he or she will not be reborn, because the ritual is not part of a holy day ceremony. However, the slave can still be confident spending eternity with the Fida'Is.

Agents of reprisal
All wrongdoers immediately loose their immunity to fire. Additionally Fida'Is curses worshippers, who violate the cult’s laws in three ways. The first curse (birth) prevents them from finding new ways. Such followers may not find unknown path, face difficulties having new ideas and are unable to reproduce. The second curse (flight) lets birds harass the wrongdoer and removes his ability to fly or ride birds. If the offender does not repent he will be subject to the third curse (death) leading him to spontaneous self-combustion of various body parts. Although those flames can be extinguished normally they cause severe injuries nonetheless.
