Neue Seite

[[Datei:XXX|miniatur|This is a Fonritan slave soldier. They make up about 5% of the population. City guards and body guards of masarins usually resemble soldiers. However, their armour and arms are usually lighter and more suitable for urban duties. Slave soldiers are always loyal to the death.]]

[[Datei:XXX|miniatur|This is a typical scene from a Fonritian bazaar. Left is a dark skinned masarin, holding a sceptre of power. Unlike most women she wears no veil, probably as a sign that she belongs to the Renewed Faction. Next to her stands her bodyguard in bronze armour. This is also a rather uncommon feature compared to most soldiers who wear armour of organic materials. His skin colour is a mixture of black and blue, making him a so called torab. Next to him is another of the masarin's slaves. This blue skinned man is a mediator or merchant negotiating on his mistresses behalf. He talks to a Hsunchen-person from the Pujaleg Empire, who wears a mask of a bat, their totem.]]

Fonrit is a rich and beautiful region on the southern continent Pamaltela in Glorantha. The Fonritan civilisation is highly developed with huge metropolitan cities, astonishing architecture, lavish attire and outstanding arts. However, it is also a cruel culture that praises slavery above all else. Almost everybody is the slave of somebody. According to Fonritan law slavery was invented by the gods to save the cosmos from its certain destruction. For this very reason it is not only insane if a slave would demand freedom but it would also endanger the world itself. Therefore any cry for freedom is considered a threat to society and an insult to the gods.

It is customary to have tattoos and ritually inflicted scars, both as body art as well as to symbolise ones master respectively mistress, the home city, slave status etc.

==Afadjann==
[[Datei:XXX|miniatur|All major Afadjanni cities lie on the coast. That means most traffic goes by sea. Except for the Great Road between Garguna and the Barueli Pass there are no paved intercity roads in Afadjann. Given the lack of horses and other riding beasts it is only natural that the most common form of transportation is by foot, either your own or that of your slaves.]]

[[Datei:XXX|miniatur|For more than 500 years maritime traffic was impossible, due to blasphemous sorcerous ritual gone wrong. During that time only river and coastal traffic was possible, leaving many islands virtually cut off from the rest of the world. A generation ago in 1580 Dormal the Sailor found a new ritual that allows a ship to break the closing. Since then ships roam again the open sea.]]

Afadjann is a confederation of many city states on the peninsula of Fonrit. It is ruled by a demigod who holds the title of Jann of Afadjann. The cities are gigantic and belong to the biggest cities in all Glorantha. Afadjann is in constant rivalry or sometimes open warfare with its neighbour Kareeshtu, the eastern city confederation, and with the barbarians and Aldryami in the western wilds.

===Pyramid of Slavery===

Below the Jann of Afadjann come the Janns of the cities, who owe him their allegiance. Each city holds seventeen masarin (noble) houses. Below the masarin are the yads. They are slaves who own slaves. Below the yads are the kaddam, the lowest ranking slaves, who make up the majority of the population. Some crafters and merchants are also free or semi-free. Afadjann also has some minority groups who stand outside of this pyramid.
===Cities===
====Abdjab====
====Alafio====

====Ebbeshal====
Ebbeshal is the city of sorcerers. It has some strange buildings with airy towers. Across the Poysida Strait lies the island Kanem Dar. The ruins of Sor would be further to the right, while Tolodofeamoro lies behind the mountain range. Note the camp before the gates of Ebbeshal. It belongs to a slave trader. While slaves are usually not worth being given proper shelter, often they are given at least tents and some water. Especially under the burning sun in Fire Season nobody wants to waste the merchandise.
Sorcerers are strange people. They came from the Western islands may centuries ago. They think they don't have to worship the gods, although those sorcerers in Fonrit at least acknowledge Ompalam's omnipotence, sometimes calling him the Invisible God. Many sorcerers keep a weird outlandish attire that is far too hot for Fonrit's semi-tropical climate. Most Fonritian sorcerers live in Ebbeshal, where they run many temples (calling them "schools" and "colleges.")
Many sorcerers keep long beards and wear clothes with occult symbols and runes. They say they give them special powers.

====Faladje====

====Garguna====
Ships are of major importance in Fonrit, both for trade and warfare. This xebec belongs to a merchant from Garguna. Xebecs have a rather narrow floor. But what they lack in capacity they gain in speed. This makes xebecs especially valuable for perishable cargo and to outrun larger priate ships.

====Hombori Tondo====
Water ways are very important for warfare, trade and leisure. This palace in Hombori Tondo belongs to the Jann of Afadjann and has not only it own private canal. Ships can also sail on it directly into the building. The Jann's soldiers guard the canal against unauthorised people. The person on the left hand side is probably an advisor or poet.

Hombori Tondo is the capital of Afadjann. All Janns have resided here. The city lies on the northern shores of the island Kanem Dar.
====Kafeamoro====
====Sarro====
Sarro is the city of thieves and pirates. Its ships are threat to any righteous merchant in Afadjann.
====Sulanbari====

====Tavu eb Teba====
[[Datei:XXX|miniatur|The "Jann's Square" is in front of the palace of the Jann of Tavu eb Teba. The square is semi-public with the Jann's guards controlling its access. They only allow entry to those they seem fit. Among them are typically artists, entertainers, and prostitutes. But wealthy slaves, rich merchants and lovers can also be seen here.]]

Tavu eb Teba is the city of artists and artisans. Buildings are lavishly decorated. Paintings, sculptures and mosaics can be seen everywhere. Poetry and music are omnipresent, day and night. Even "middle-class" taverns and merchants are patrons of the art and any inhabitant knows at least one musical instrument.

====Temissrah====

====Teshvashoros====
====Tolodofeamoro====
====Zandorffo====

==Fonritan Gods==
Although the Sun is very popular in Fonrit and many sun cults like Varama and Fida'Is exist, the heat can also be a nuisance. Architecture, clothes and behaviour all show the people's need to protect against the sun. This young lady enjoys a tea under the awnings, while the wind blows through the large open windows. Stepping into a masarin's shadow is an insult and a crime, usually punished with 17 lashes of the whip or torture.
Malubadou is the god of alchemy and healing. This priest and his slave conduct an experiment on a potion of eternal youth. Most of these experiments are dangerous, some are lethal and require a large and steady supply of probands. Luckily Malubadou does not know the Hippocratic Oath.
