Shovel-tuskers are large land creatures of central and northern [[Pamaltela]]. They can be found in both forests and dry regions, like savannah. They are around 8 to 9 feet high and weigh around 3 to 6 tonnes. Bulls are usually larger than cows. Shovel-tuskers possess two pairs of tusks. The upper pair is round and conical, while the lower pair is flat. The animals use the lower pair to dig earth and to get the bark off trees. The origin of shovel-tuskers is lost but it is believed that a sister or niece of Ernamola created them during the gods age.

Shovel-tuskers need only to sleep a quarter of the night, and when they do they usually sleep standing. The rest of the time they spend eating. In [[Fonrit]] shovel-tuskers are bred for war and transportation and as beasts of burden. They are stronger, more diligent, more hard-working and - most of all – more loyal than human slaves. However, they also need more food, what makes shovel-tuskers a more expensive commodity than slaves.

==Dwarf-tusker==

A related species is called dwarf-tusker. They reach the size of baby shovel-tuskers, what is about 4 to 5 feet and 200 to 400 pounds. Male and female dwarf-tuskers have the same size. Their trunk is much smaller in relation to their body, compared to shovel-tuskers. Dwarf-tuskers are rarely used at war, but they are frequently seen as beasts of burden in Fonrit's major cities.
